Petrea, whose name comes from Greek mythology and means “source of the rocks”, is in the oldest part of the hermitage and is ideal for a family or group of friends.
The apartment can be accessed from the gate beside the church of San Francesco, through a large shared courtyard embellished by beautiful old palm trees, and also from the upper garden, with its terraces and various viewpoints, where there is an entrance from the street.
It consists of:
- A spacious master bedroom, with old wooden beams, a fireplace and a complete bathroom, which was part of the original residential core of the eighteenth-century building. The bedroom, joined to the apartment, can also be accessed independently trough the glazed doors to the upper garden, onto which it looks;
- A very scenic double bedroom with a queen size bed and a complete bathroom;
- A third double bedroom, known as the “hermit’s cell”, also with a complete bathroom and a window that originally opened onto a portico when the hermitage was first built, more than two centuries ago; over the years, with the extension of the house, it has acquired a unique view over the bright, scenic entrance;
- A fourth complete bathroom serving the living room;
- A spacious internal kitchen;
- An ample entrance and a large living room of about 150 m2 in size, with a splendid view over the Bay of San Francesco. It has an adjoining level covered terrace with arches, around 40 m2 in size, which can be used all the year round to enjoy the view of the sea, the beautiful sunsets and the outline of Ventotene Island on the horizon. The terrace, on the same level as the living room, serves as the roof of the overpass, a surprising but very effective architectural solution by the English previous owner, who designed it personally at the beginning of the last century. A small wrought iron balcony, also designed by the previous owner, stands above the entrance gate, giving harmony and proportion to the facade.
For total relaxation, Petrea also has a private sun terrace, accessed via the entrance staircase, which overlooks the beautiful Bay of San Francesco and is furnished with sun loungers and a mini spa.
Finally, the guests in the apartment can enjoy a large garden with old trees, scenic terraces and a courtyard, shared with the other apartments in the building.
Petrea is therefore a large apartment, with a floor area of about 290 m2, plus external spaces, just waiting to be discovered. It sleeps six persons, has four bathrooms and is ideal for your holiday with relatives or friends, or for hosting events.
The renovation work on the apartment just described was completed in the spring of 2015, with the help of interior designer Giuliano Andrea Dell’Uva, and features some “particular” choices regarding the use of the living space, as the owner had no desire to further modify the original structure of the house, even with regard to its new use as guest accommodation. For the work, wide use was made of modern materials such as resin, designer lighting and special paints, together with traditional materials such as simple hand forged wrought iron and common glass.
The final results of the renovation have been photographed and published in some international furnishing magazines.

The location is really good - right near a public beach and dining and is a short walk along the coast to Forio which is the closest major town and where one of the ferry ports is. We would 100% stay here again!!
NOTE: If you’re not European take care of your driving permit in advance or you cannot rent a scooter which would have made the stay better/easier. - 30 Jul 2022

The only negative for us was that the kitchen is rather poorly equipped for a place of this size and cost. - 29 Sep 2021

The house is perfectly located in a great area, the beach is just 50 mt from the house and you can enjoy the sunset from the outdoor jacuzzi.
In the morning is nice to have the breakfast on the terrace while watching the sea and the boats.
A suggestion? Don’t think twice and book this apartment, you will not regret it! - 24 May 2021

You won’t find many reviews on my airbnb profile as my wife is the planner of all of our trips. However, for her 30th birthday I decided to plan her a few relaxing days away to celebrate. We have lived in Italy for 3 years now and have stayed at many airbnb’s and airbnb plus throughout Italy and Europe over this time.
This property is as every review has stated architecturally stunning. However, there were a few issues during our stay that need to be addressed. I would also like to note our stay occurred after COVID restrictions have been eased. We can not confirm, but it is possible we were one of the first few guests this property has seen since COVID began in Italy.
- First day: the AC unit in guest bedroom #1 had an error message and cold air was no longer exiting the AC unit. We contacted the property manager and she suggested that we restart the breaker a few times, which solved the problem for the most part. However, throughout our stay we had to restart the breaker multiple times to fix the AC.
- Second day: From what we could see the property has separate apartments for guests. When we arrived at the property there were already guests in one of the apartments. We were then checked in. Then on the second day another family was checked in to another apartment on the property. On this same day the electricity for the entire property is lost (Owner claims electricity was lost due to overload from electricity national provider). We are left wondering if this overload occurred because the property did not increase the allowance of electricity for the property and thus, when more guests are checked in— electricity was overloaded. Again this is our conclusion of why the overload occurred. We did not speak to the electrician who came to fix the problem. Yet again, during our vacation we were left contacting the property manager. The electricity was back up after a few hours.
- Third day: In the morning, guest bedroom #2 AC stopped working completely. Property manager was contacted and AC repairman was sent to property. AC repairman said “AC unit is dead”. Guests in bedroom #2 were left without AC for the remainder of our stay (24 hours).
The above are the main concerns for this property. The next concerns are important to mention, but we definitely could have overlooked them if the issues with the AC and electricity had not occurred.
There are certain amenities we expect during an airbnb PLUS experience. A few of those are — hand soap/shampoo/conditioner/shower gel in every bathroom, at least one extra roll of toilet paper in each bathroom, and liners for all trash cans. I would consider all of these to be basic amenities.
When we arrived the following amenities were missing from the property.
-No garbage bag in kitchen (After communication with property manager a roll of garbage bags was provided the following day)
-No hand soap in 2 out of 4 bathrooms.
-No body soap or conditioner in all bathrooms.
-4 bathrooms with a roll of toilet paper remaining in each bathroom for 3 nights and 6 guests. An extra 2 rolls of TP was provided the following day after communication with the property manager.
-No paper towels in the kitchen
To conclude, this property did not appear to be fully prepared to host guests again after COVID based on the concerns listed above. During a vacation I would prefer to not have to contact the owner/property manager at all. However, during our stay the property manager was at the airbnb every day due to a raised concern. I had to constantly be available through my cell (instead of just unplugging from it) whether it was for the property manager to come by or the AC repairman.
After our stay these concerns were messaged to the owner of the airbnb plus property. Unfortunately, his response lacked understanding or ownership of the events that had occurred. Every response from him was an excuse. - 06 Jul 2020

La stanza dove alloggiavamo era assolutamente pulita con tutto il necessario.
doccia funzionale e letto comodissimo. Tutto ineccepibile!!! - 01 Feb 2020

Relax assicurato. - 27 Jan 2020

Communication with the host was easy and the house had everything we needed. It's incredibly spacious, would be great for families or groups of friends traveling together. We would absolutely stay here again. - 24 Sep 2019

The appartment is a huge one, with a lot of character.
Really spacious and luminous.
And what a great location, just a few steps to the beach where you can have complimentary beds for the day.
The jacuzzi is just amazing, with a direct view on sunset. It was magical.
And you will get a place to park, not that common in Ischia 😉 - 23 Aug 2019

Easy parking, quick to reach the port and Forio - but you can quite happily stay where you are and walk down to great places to eat at the edge of the beach. No real need to drive anywhere if you just want to relax. Very helpful check in, and Ruts was very quick to respond to our questions. Very flexible too with check in and out.
For us, the only issue was the big bonfire burning on the beach, but I think this was just a pre-season clear up of driftwood- I’m sure it wouldn’t happen very often, but things did get quite smoky for us! That certainly wouldn’t put me off, we’ll be very keen to come back here, if it’s ever available. If you get the chance, book it. - 13 Apr 2019

The house itself is extraordinary, with the hi-tech lighting and antiques, the terraces and the hot tub it will take your breath away.
A short walk down a steep, narrow cobbled road brings you to the beach and several excellent restaurants serving the most amazing seafood. There are several mini markets nearby plus small shops from which you can purchase stamps and postcards etc.
I would thoroughly recommend staying here to anyone who wants a peaceful break. - 26 Apr 2016
