Calipso apartment, which name cames from the sea nymph of who fell in love with Odysseus in Homer’s Odyssey, is located in the lower part of the Eremo di Montevergine. It boasts a nice terrace with arcades, to share with the adjoining apartment Teti, from which you can enjoy the most beautiful view of San Francesco’s beach and its limpid sea.
Calipso is an apartment of 50 square meters, and in its oldest part it probably dates back to the end of 1600, when it was used as a sacristy of the neighboring Church with which it communicated. After having undergone several transformations and uses over time that have changed its appearance, today the house, in its tourist destination, is designed to accommodate a single couple even with children or two pairs of friends, having two entrances and two independent bathrooms. The apartment is accessed from a first entrance through a covered porch; follows a first bedroom with a king-size double bed placed on a raised attic and a bathroom with a shower made of what was once a ravine in the rock. The view is on the common terrace and on the panorama of the bay of S. Francesco.
Through a small internal staircase carved into the rock you arrive at the second living room where there is a comfortable sofa bed and a fully equipped kitchenette. From this room a French door opens onto the common terrace with a view of the panorama of San Francesco and in the distance the port of Forio. This room, with a vaulted ceiling, obtained in remote times from a natural cavity in the rock is served by a second spacious and bright bathroom. Outside, a corner of the common, shaded courtyard with a dining table and deck chairs has been cut out. Everything was revised by the interior designer Giuliano Andrea from Uva who, exploiting the spaces without changing the volume of the rooms, enhanced the interiors, designed the exclusive furnishings, creating a mix between old and new.
